The Immigration Restriction Act

The Immigration Restriction Act was in 1901 were the act of Parliament of Australia were they limited the immigration of people coming to Australia. It was also made illegal for immigrants to come and if they did they’d be deported out of the country. The act at the time stopped may people coming to Australia and also the starting of the ‘Dictation test’. The dictation test is mainly were people, not necessarily English people, some of the European language, at the option of becoming an immigration officer. The test was mainly used in Western Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania; the test won’t be any longer than 50 words long but sometimes very difficult. The dictation test gave the officers a chance to evaluate the participants on the basis of language skills and also gave the person a chance of failing, as the test was that challenging many people failed. The immigration act gave some people who knew the English language well to come into Australia.
